On 6 December 2018, I had a conversation with the well-known theologian and psychoanalyst about the nature of illness and healing, both with regard to the individual and to society.

Eugen Drewermann is a German theologian, psychotherapist, author and former Roman Catholic priest. He is best known for combining theology with depth psychology, for his critical engagement with Catholic dogma, and for his public advocacy of a more non-violent and humane understanding of Christianity.

Chamtrul Rinpoche, also known as Chamtrul Rinpoche Lobsang Gyatso, is a Tibetan Buddhist teacher in the Nyingma tradition. He is recognised as the reincarnation of the second Chamtrul Rinpoche, received the title of Khenpo after extensive philosophical study, and teaches Buddhist philosophy and practice internationally through lectures, empowerments and Dharma instruction.

This engaging interview offers profound insight into the Tibetan Buddhist view of suffering, healing, meditation, compassion, consciousness, and the path of inner liberation. In conversation with Jörg Berchem, fundamental questions of human suffering, spiritual development, and the connection between spiritual and scientific perspectives are explored in an impressive way. He teaches worldwide through books and seminars and runs a multi-award-winning healing centre in Thailand.

This inspiring conversation with Mantak Chia is devoted to the Universal Healing Tao and the question of how Taoist healing methods can contribute to greater physical, mental, and energetic harmony. In dialogue with Jörg Berchem, it explores inner healing, self-development, and the understanding of life energy as a path towards greater health, balance, and awareness. An engaging video for all who are interested in Taoist practice, holistic healing, and Eastern paths of self-cultivation.

At both the International Congress of Complementary Medicine and the International Congress of Naturopathy, the latest research findings on cannabis were a recurring topic. Other topics addressed in the video include a medical-philosophical concept from Greece and the “Hevert Collection”, a sixteen-volume compilation of important naturopathic texts. Why German associations of Heilpraktiker do not send delegates to these congresses, and why, among more than 500 participants from 55 nations, no German Heilpraktiker apart from myself were present, is beyond me. Cut off from global networking and developments in alternative medicine, the German Heilpraktiker is thus drifting towards traditionalism and international insignificance in a globally connected world. It does not help to be listed somewhere on paper as a “member” or “cooperation partner” if genuine commitment and presence are lacking.

Wir leben in einer Welt der Berechnung. Die Schönheit und Vielfalt der Natur, auch die Vielfalt und die Schönheit des Menschen lassen sich aber weder berechnen noch beweisen. Das rein materialistische und mechanische Denken durchdringt noch immer die gesamte Wissenschaft und das individuelle Denken und Bewusstsein jedes Einzelnen. Es macht auch vor der Naturheilkunde nicht halt. Ein rein materialistisches, als wissenschaftlich bezeichnetes Denken, das den Menschen als Maschine einer bestimmten Bauart begreifen will, muss aber zwangsweise mit einer seelischen Erstarrung einhergehen; denn die Seele ist nicht materiell. Gefühle wie Freue, Liebe, Glück sind viel mehr als chemische Abläufe im Gehirn. Um Gesundheit, Heilung zu ermöglichen, bedarf es daher auch des ursprünglich intuitiven, überlieferten Wissens über das nicht-stoffliche Wesen des Menschen, seine Existenz jenseits von Raum und Zeit, seine Verbindungen und Einflüsse durch Mikrokosmos und Makrokosmos. Die Spagyrik ist eine alternative Sicht der Natur, eine alternative Sicht des Seins und auch der Bereiche, die des Menschen Quintessenz, sein Ich, seine Physis, Leben, Seele und Geist ausmachen. Die spagyrischen Mittel nach Glückselig enthalten eine solch ganzheitlich ausgerichtete Grundsubstanz, und mit den nicht-stofflichen Kräften der Planeten und Metalle können sie den Menschen in seinem Sein und seiner Entwicklung unterstützen und zwischen Himmel und Erde aufrichten."
